NEWS RELEASE |
VICTORIA–Auditor General (Acting) Arn van Iersel acknowledged that government has made a number of positive improvements in how it reports on the state of its finances. He is also recommending a few areas for improvement.
“I am pleased to report that government has made a number of improvements in its comprehensive financial statement discussion and analysis section of the Public Accounts and in an expanded analysis in its Financial and Economic Review.”, says Mr. van Iersel.
“I encourage government to continue its improvements, to help Legislators and the citizens of British Columbia more fully understand the financial position and performance of government.”
In his Monitoring Government’s Finances report, Mr. van Iersel provides, for the first time, a full ten year trend for several key financial and economic indicators he believes should supplement government’s Summary Financial Statements. He also compares BC’s financial condition to several other Canadian jurisdictions based on a few key indicators.
The report also includes several recommendations for government to further strengthen its annual financial statement discussion and analysis section of the Public Accounts.
